A direct answer to "was a mixture worth it?", comparing the recommendation against the best single distribution on the criterion and on the usual goodness-of-fit tests.
The goodness-of-fit tests are reported for both because the criterion difference alone is hard to read: it is on an arbitrary scale and says nothing about whether either fit is defensible. A mixture that beats a single distribution which both tests reject is a different situation from one that beats a single distribution neither test rejects.
